Middle School

At Hillcrest, Middle School youth can experience God's love in real and relevant ways through Sunday morning student services at the Student Center as well as a variety of activities throughout the week. Each student has opportunities to connect and learn more about their faith.

Who and What to Expect

You can expect to meet kids from different schools and areas. You'll see students in jeans, shorts, dresses, and sweatshirts. Come as you are! You'll meet our Youth Pastor and some great interns. We hope that you'll relax into a morning of worship songs, a biblical sermon, and learning more about God.

Youth Waiver 2019-2020

Sunday Morning:

MIDDLE SCHOOL | 10:45am to 12:00pm | Student Center

Our middle school ministry (grades 6-8) meets every Sunday at the Student Center for fun, worship, teaching, and small groups.

The first Sunday of every month it's called ALL TOGETHER NOW. Our youth ministry is going to be meeting together in the Fellowship Hall from 10:15-10:45 am for breakfast and hang out together.  Following breakfast, our youth and their small group leaders will be heading upstairs to worship together with the rest of the church.  It's simple, but we think it will be an effective way for our youth to feel included and part of the church in a deeper and meaningful way.  Also, we are looking at ways to involve them more in the service.  We hope that our HCYM students will have a great experience and participate more in the life of the church moving forward

January and February :

Tell me your story (in January and February all of our small group leaders are going to share stories. We want our kids to know and learn how to pay attention to people’s stories and how to share their own.

March: Doubt It ( We were all designed to ask questions. As toddlers, we constantly asked, “Why?” But as we get older, asking too many questions is often discouraged — especially when those questions are about our faith. But in this 4-week series, we’ll talk about how having questions (and even doubts) about God might not be as scary or as shameful as we thought, because you’re not alone in your questions, God doesn’t shame us for our questions, our questions don’t always get answered, and Godly people can help us with our questions.)

April: Worth It: To some people, the Easter season is all about candy, bunnies, and colorful eggs. Of course, Easter is a time of joy and celebration, but that’s not the whole story — because, before we can celebrate the joy of Jesus’ victory, we have to first remember the pain of Jesus’ suffering. In this series, we’ll look at Jesus’ final days, death, and resurrection, as well as the experiences of the early Church, as we see how the Jesus who suffered suffers from you and the Jesus who lives now lives in you.

May: Atypical: No family is perfect — not even the ones that seem “normal” on the outside. No one truly has a “normal” family, and that’s okay! Sometimes it’s the most not-normal families that God uses to make the most not-normal difference in the world. In this 4-week series, we’ll look at four imperfect and “atypical” families from Scripture. We’ll discover that not-so-typical families are often used by God because not-so-typical families pray for each other, have tough conversations, and forgive each other.

Freedom Fire is a Christian mission organization dedicated to the advancement of God’s Kingdom and love in the inner city of Kansas City. Drop off/pick up is at the Student Center. Parents are welcome to come and be a leader.

2nd SUNDAY NIGHT - HOUSE PARTY 6:30pm-7:30pm
House party is a night where our HCYM middle schoolers come together to have fun, eat food, and build friendships with people that get what it’s like to be a middle schooler. Make sure to RSVP so you can get the addresses.

3rd SUNDAY NIGHT - RANDOM NIGHT 6:30pm-7:30pm
Random night simply means we will be doing a variety of fun/different events in and around our community designed to connect our middle school youth to a shared experience that will put a smile on their face and help them get to know other middle schoolers and adults. Make sure to look for the locations to drop off and pick up.

This is a night designed to help our middle school guys and girls to take steps towards becoming the “man” and “lady” that God has created them to become. Bring something to share.
